Brief Translation

“3D World” visited “prerelease” demonstration of the film «We are from the future – 2”. The Film is oriented mostly to the youth and continues good traditions of the first part with its dynamic and interesting plot, shoots, explosions, unusual love story and masterly made special and visual effects. That is a perfect frame to tell about dramatic facts of the Great Patriotic War.

“We are from the future – 2” is a good teenager’s movie, which explains simple thing, how to tell the good from the evil. These kinds of films are rather uncommon now. At “We are from the future – 2” works even five directors, it has good cast, absorbing plot and lots of special and visual effects. In the shooting took part members of clubs of military & historical reconstructions, authentic military equipment and arms since the times of the Great Patriotic War. Maybe, cinematically sophisticated viewer will pay attention to some slip-up’s and naivety, but remember that the same normally happen with films be loved in childhood, when you come back to see it after many years. And for sure, about the visual effects. As a visual effects supervisor at the project worked Victor  Luckysov with his Studio Asymmetric VFX. In all the A-VFX Studio made for the film 240 shots. By no means, when there are more than a week before the official realize, the studio doesn’t divulge details about VFX making, but anyway we’re able to persuade Victor tell some words about the work at the film.

“The greatest part of the job at visual effects took us just about 2 month” – tells Victor. “Strict deadlines became for us one of the biggest difficulties, which we successfully solved. But anyway the most important zest of our job is the invisibility of visual effects. We made more than 240 shots, but after the first look, you hardly can see even 20, somewhere effects were made just for the effects, but as a whole we tried to make it as possible realistic. As for me, I will not discuss about the plot, but I’ve enjoyed the movie, it was cool!”

At the film première we could talk with one the film directors – Alexander Samohvalov. Alexander is one of the leading Russian special effects directors, the real fan of his work and very pleasant interlocutor. He revealed us a few secrets of the work at special effects at this film and shared interesting stories from the shooting. For example, in one of the scenes the projectile hits the summerhouse with columns. We need to create the effect of this explosion. There were a payload inside of the hollow columns and the columns itself were fastened with a metal rope, thus shell splinters appear in the frame and the group was save. By the tragic accident, specialist counted wrong the weight of the wooden roof, us a result a huge log hit one the actors of the crowd, but successfully a military flask on his belt saved the man!

Also Alexaneder estimated very high the work of the visual effect supervisor, Victor Luckysov. Besides the usual work of VFX designers at the battle films, Alexander told, FE, how visual effects saved spectacular, but made by accident, shot with the explosion, it appear in the film thanks to the Asymmetric VFX, which completed it by tolls of CG.
